What better way to explore Italy than by foot? Winding your way through vineyards and olive groves cresting a hill and finding a little medieval village bathed in the Tuscan sun. This is what we propose for your holiday--delightful mornings in the kitchen, learning to prepare authentic Umbrian & Tuscan cuisine. Afternoons exploring the surrounding countryside, maybe tasting some wine or visiting an olive oil mill. It's all there for you on a five day walking and cooking tour that is designed for who want to combine their passion for cooking with healthy walks through the Italian countryside.

Day One

Afternoon arrival at Relais Ca de Principi, a lovely country residence hotel located in the Umbrian town of Piegaro. Ca de Principi was built in the 14th century. Once a nobleman’s residence, it has been carefully restored and transformed into a elegant hideaway.
Tonight enjoy a barbecue and tasting of the local wine and regional specialties such as cheese, sausages and the extra virgin olive oil DOP of Piegaro. Weather permitting, the barbecue will be held poolside, with views of the southern shores of Lake Trasimeno.

Day Two

After breakfast meet your teacher in the kitchen of the Relais for your first hands-on cooking lesson. Today’s theme: “Hand-made Pasta.” Afterwards enjoy a lunch based on your efforts in the kitchen accompanied by wine.
In the afternoon meet your personal, English speaking guide for an excursion to Etruscan town of Chiusi. From there, venture to Lake Trasimeno and its historical castles and villages. There you will enjoy dinner featuring fresh fish from Italy’s largest lake.

Day Three

After breakfast you’ll go on your first walk, venturing from Piegaro to Paniale. The four hour guided walk will take you to Mount Petravella with magnificent panoramic views of Trasimeno. Enjoy a picnic lunch packed by the Relais along the way.

Return to the relais for your second cooking lesson. Today’s theme,” Traditional Meat Preparation and Antipasti.” Dinner with wine follows.

Day Four

Today’s guided walk will take you from Piegaro to Citta della Pieve. Following the path of Sain Biagio, you’ll pass through gorgeous Umbrian countryside with vineyards and olive groves all around. After a picnic lunch you’ll have a chance to visit the historical center of Citta della Pieve with Perugino’s frescoes.

In the afternoon travel to Southern Tuscany and the Orcia valley, known for its wine and now under the protection of UNESCO. You’ll visit Montalcino and have a chance to taste its world famous wine.
Back to the relais where you will enjoy a typical dinner with the truffle specialties of Citta della Pieve accompanied by local wine.
