It is one of the most
beautiful and magical places in the world. Venice… a city of water
and light; of dreams and romance. She is the most elusive of all
places. Whether you've been once or not at all, La Serenissma beckons
the traveler to explore her mystery.
How best to know Venice than to know her Lagoon. It is an immense, tranquil mirror of water dotted with islands…some known…some not. We invite you on a very unique culinary journey sailing the Venetian lagoon on an antique sailboat.
The Eolo is the last boat still in navigation belonging to the category called "bragosso;" these boats were formerly used for fishing in both the lagoon and the sea as long ago as the Republic of Venice. The Eolo was built in 1946 and has been restored with painstaking detail.
The Eolo will be your vessel as you sail the Venetian lagoon for four days, stopping at markets, exploring islands, and learning to prepare Venetian cuisine. At night, you will be guests in some of the most famous and esteemed restaurants in the world. Your accommodations will be in charming villas and hotels. A truly unique experience.
You will be met and transferred either from the Venice airport or railway station the Palazzo Contarini, a former palace transformed into an elegant and intimate hotel.
This morning, you'll board the Eolo and sail south through the lagoon. Enjoy a cooking lesson on board followed by lunch.
In the evening you will reach Chioggia, once an old Venetian outpost on the edge of the Lagoon--one of the most important and busy fishing ports on the Adriatic. Dinner and overnight at the Grand'Italia hotel. This four star hotel was built in the early 1900s and has been recently restored.
Early morning visit of the colorful fish market of Chioggia. Here you can find every kind of seafood imaginable: eels, baby cuttlefish, sole, mullet, spider crab, and clams just to name a few. Sail north with your catch for another cooking lesson on board followed by lunch. Afternoon visit of S. Erasmo Island where you'll visit an ancient vegetable production area.
Dinner and overnight in Casa della Dogana or a private villa on Torcello.
Sail back to Venice where you will visit San Francesco del Deserto, a beautiful island in the north Lagoon with a 15th century monastery, where eight monks still live. Lunch.
Afternoon cooking lesson with the legendary Fulvia Sesani in her palazzo. Dinner follows the lesson.
Overnight at the Palace Contarini, a private Venetian palace built in the 14th century. The palazzo was restored four years ago and is filled with fine antiques, tapestries, and art, offering timeless elegance with every comfort.
Morning walking tour of the "Secret Venice." Lunch will be in a typical osteria. This afternoon, join Countess Fulvia Sesani for a cooking lesson in her palazzo located in the heart of Venice. Ms. Sesani was born in Venice and was a chemist for 25 years. She began attending cooking courses all over the world, studying with such luminaries as Julia Child, James Beard, Jacques Pepin and Roger Verge. Sesani is the author and contributor to several cookbooks and has written numerous articles for international magazines. She teaches students in her Venetian palace, where her family has lived for many generations, as well as at the Cipriani hotel where she taught with Julia Child for many years. Dinner follows the lesson, either in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the canal.
