What better way to experience the food, sites, and life of Provence than on bicycle? Peddling down scented country lanes, you will see a part of this beautiful region that is untouched by tourism. The exercise will whet your palate and make you savor the cooking lessons that much more. For those of you who are athletically and independently minded, this is a perfect way to explore Provence. Your journey begins in Avignon from which point you will ride off into the countryside along the Rhone River before heading into wine country and the village of Tavel.

Day One

Transfer from the Avignon TGV station to your centrally located and charming three star hotel in the heart of Papal Avignon. Dinner on your own.

Day Two

After breakfast you will be measured and outfitted with your comfortable 21 speed hybrid bike. You will also be provided with a road book which will include a detailed itinerary of each day's biking and a practical map. We propose a selection of restaurants and places to visit, along with practical information like where to find a post office or bank.

Maps and directions in hand, venture out of Avignon and into the Gard's lesser known (but still wonderful) vineyards all the way to the village of Tavel (about 30 km) Here you will check into a charming Provencal bed and breakfast run by a delightful and engaging couple. Each room is individually decorated and features a private bathroom. Welcome dinner.

Day Three

This morning enjoy a hands-on cooking class at the mas...This one of a kind course will provide a personalized and enjoyable cooking experience learning the secrets of Midi cuisine. You'll take the fruits of your efforts, basket in hand, for a picnic beneath a plane tree along the Rhone river on your way to Chateauneuf-du-Pape for an afternoon of vineyard hopping! (40 km). Dinner.

Day Four

Take a day off from biking to discover Tavel's many wine cellars and grab a bottle before the afternoon's cooking class and dinner. The course will last two hours and will be based on seasonal ingredients. You'll prepare your meal and then be able to taste it for dinner. Friendly ambience, full of humor and tales from grandma's days are part of the cookery classes.
